Climbtribute.com

I published a new site with the specific goal of making it easier to find, follow, and contribute to climbing organizations in the U.S. and around the world:

I'd always found it tricky to figure out what climbing organizations serve various climbing areas around the country, and the best ways to give back. Sometimes I don't even know an organization exists, other times they don't have a strong internet presence or only post updates through Instagram or whatever. This site has a searchable list of orgs, as well as a map of climbing areas with the orgs associated with them.

With climbing continuing to rapidly grow in popularity, there is a real need to find ways to get more people involved in protecting climbing resources through donating their time and/or cash. Organizations frequently host trail maintenance, trash clean-up, and other access-related projects to reduce climber impacts. Depending on the org's focus, donations are used to fund things like re-bolting & route maintenance, lobbying local/state/national governments, and even buying the land itself (e.g. in the Red River Gorge).

Some long-term goals of the site are:

  • Having a more complete list of international organizations, so that this is a resource for traveling climbers around the world.

  • Enabling self-service updating of links/areas/etc. by representatives of the various organizations.

  • A comprehensive list of events hosted by these organizations viewable via map (scrapping the events will be a challenge...)

Bookmark climbtribute.com and check it out next time you go somewhere new! Let me know if you have feedback or ideas of how to improve the site.
